The Church hosts a hugely successful Repair Café once in a month in partnership with Silsden Climate Action Group and the Repair Café is delighted to have won a BBC Radio Leeds ‘Make a Difference’ Award in the ‘Green’ Category.
The Repair Café is held once a month and began in June 2023 and in the first year 624 items were brought in and 551 fully or partially repaired or advice given, saving numerous items going to landfill and giving treasured items a new lease of life.
A whole variety of repairs are carried out from sentimental soft toys to electrical appliances and lots of gardening tools sharpened. As well as the repairs there is a Pop-up Refill shop saving plastic bottles going into landfill, a Second Hand Book Stall, Energy Saving Help Desk and Charity Collections of unwanted items such as bikes, phones, tools, etc which are passed onto charities who refurbish and redistribute and there is also an occasional Swapping not Shopping Shop.
As well as the repairing of broken items the church is running the Café for people to sit and chat and have a drink or crumpets, toasted teacake and cakes while they wait .
You don’t need to bring a repair to use the café, it is open to all and we would love to see you there. A voluntary donation is asked for towards the cost of the refreshments.
Come along and see for yourselves either with or without a repair job, you will be given a warm welcome
